The A56 Deansgate in Manchester city centre is closed this morning due what is being described as a “police incident”.
Traffic monitoring site Inrix reports that street has been shut between A6 Blackfriars Street to A34 Bridge Street.
Inrix first reported the closure at 4.57am and stated the road is closed in the southbound one-way section south of the cathedral.
In an update at 5.46am, Inrix reported: “A56 Deansgate One Way Street closed due to police incident at A34 Bridge Street / John Dalton Street. The junction is closed from all directions.”
At 5.29am, Transport for Greater Manchester tweeted: “Deansgate closed both directions between and including the full junctions of Bridge St/John Dalton St and King St/King St West”.
Services from bus companies including Diamond North West, First Manchester, Go North West Bus and Stagecoach Greater Manchester have been affected due to being diverted.
Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.
