Colorado Springs Utilities provides Saturday power outage update

COLORADO SPRINGS — Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU) has provided yet another update regarding the remaining power outages around the city.

During a press conference Sunday afternoon, CSU General Manager of Energy Construction, Operations, and Maintenance Charles Cassidy provided an update regarding remaining power outages across the city.

Charles Cassidy, Colorado Springs Utilities

According to Cassidy, as of 1 p.m. Sunday, 1,300 people remained without electricity. Those customers have been without power for four days. Cassidy told media outlets most of the customers will be restored by Sunday evening, however, CSU expects 400 people to remain without power throughout the night.

70 crews have been mobilized to restore power.

Cassidy also told FOX21 News that Wednesday’s windstorm marked one of the “most significant” events CSU has ever responded to.

Cassidy went on to mention that some customers will remain without power even longer than Monday if their masts or meter sockets have been damaged. In that case, according to CSU, it is the customer’s responsibility to have those pieces of equipment fixed before CSU can restore power.

Saturday morning, CSU reported approximately 2,800 power outages left out of the 40,000 outages that were originally reported Wednesday.

According to CSU, complete restoration of power is expected by Sunday, Dec. 19.

CSU told media outlets it had 400 employees on the ground restoring power. In addition to CSU employees, the Colorado Springs Police Department, Colorado Springs Fire Department, Xcel Energy employees, and crews from Fountain are also on-hand to help with restoration efforts.
