Fans oppose plan to invite BTS to perform at inauguration of new South Korean president – Manila Bulletin


Fans of BTS are opposing the plan to invite the Okay-pop idol group to perform at the inauguration of new South Korean president Yoon Suk-yeol.

This after Yoon’s transition committee member Park Joo-sun stated they have been discussing the chance of BTS performing at Yoon’s inauguration that shall be held on Could 10.

Park Joo-sun, who’s in-charge of the presidential inauguration, advised KBS Radio present on April 5 that BTS’ efficiency at the occasion is below dialogue.

The transition committee was created for a clean transition of authorities from incumbent President Moon Jae-in to Yoon.

Korean followers took to the transition committee web site to oppose the plan to have BTS perform at the inauguration of Yoon, saying the idol group shouldn’t be used for any political functions.

“Please do not use BTS for politics,” one posted.

“Don’t touch BTS. BTS is not a publicity tool for individuals and political parties!! BTS is not a tool for entertainment and entertainment of individuals and parties!!” one other wrote.

“I am against BTS’ performance at the inauguration ceremony. I am against using it for political purposes,” in accordance to a netizen.

Final April 2, Ahn Cheol-soo, chairman of the transition committee, visited HYBE headquarters.

A petition has been filed on the web site of the Workplace of the President opposing the efficiency of BTS at the presidential inauguration, stating that “any attempt to use [BTS] for political purposes is unacceptable.” The petition has garnered greater than 6,600 signatures as of writing.

Following the backlash, the transition committee issued a press release, saying, “We have made no proposal or contact with BTS’ agency in relation to the inaugural ceremony,” Yonhap Information reported.

It stated that Park Joo-sun’s feedback on the KBS radio program “are not the official position of the transition committee.”

Nonetheless, the general public relations staff of the transition committee advised Yonhap Information that the inauguration committee did “review presenting a BTS invitation show during discussions” though it was not confirmed.

Large Hit Music advised Korean media that it solely came upon in regards to the plan in regards to the BTS efficiency by means of the media and it has not acquired any official invitation to date.
