Pitt In Attendance Tonight To Watch Local Freshman Phenom Alier Maluk

The Pitt basketball staff is taking advantage of an off night to get out recruiting and at least one member of the staff is staying local.

Panther assistant Jason Capel is in attendance to watch one of the top talents in the WPIAL, Imani Christian Academy freshman Alier Maluk.

The 6′-foot-10″ forward has gotten the attention from coaches across the country, holding offers from Pitt, LSU, Texas A&M and Seton Hall. Earlier this summer, Maluk received a visit from Kentucky head coach John Calipari, who attended one of his practices. Jeff Capel and his staff have also been out multiple times to watch Maluk practice and play in game action.

While Maluk has a very skinny frame, he is clearly one of the most skilled players in his class, and at this young of an age, the future is sure looking bright.

This summer, Maluk competed in the D Rich TV camp and put all of his skills on display for coaches, media, and the public. In fact, the highlight tape of his performance has already received thousands of views on YouTube, and compares him to NBA player Bol Bol. In the video, Maluk showcased an elite outside jump shot as well as ball-handling ability that is unheard of for a player so young and so tall.

Maluk is a 6-foot-10 South Sudan native who lives in Baldwin and attends Imani Christian. The freshman in high school is one of the most intriguing prospects the WPIAL has seen in years.

The Pitt staff has now offered two prospects in the 2025 class, Maluk and Darryn Peterson, a 6-foot-4 guard.
