TikTok’s New Viral Contour Hack is Surprisingly Easy

If you’ve spent hours in front of the mirror trying to nail a contouring technique and haven’t found The One for you, don’t fret — this genius tip from TikTok may just change your sculpting game for good.

In December, TikTok user and makeup theorist Megan Lavallie shared a super-simple contour hack to her channel to make a subtle contour easy and extremely effective. Megan begins the video with a nickel-sized spot in a few shades darker than her skin placed right at the hollow of her cheek. “There is this one spot on your cheek that if you poked a hole through, it would touch your cheek,” she explains of the placement. After the makeup is in the right place on the face, Megan uses a fluffy blending brush to gently blend the spot out. “If you softly blend it out, you create the most soft-looking high cheekbone for those who want to look good from the side and the front,” she says, showcasing a subtle yet impactful contour on her face. “Sometimes a straight line from your ear can look a little intense,” Megan writes in her video caption, and her technique proves that contouring doesn’t always need to be a series of precise lines drawn on your face.

Fellow beauty enthusiast @mandylikes recently tried Megan’s tip, which has since amassed over three million views and proved the technique works perfectly on different face shapes. (Megan’s video has over seven million views at the time of writing.) Both Megan and Mandy appear to be using the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Contour Wand in their TikToks.

If you like this trick, Megan’s channel is full of beauty hacks and tricks to make your routine simple and gorgeous, but one of my favorites (and TikTok’s too!) is her ’90s supermodel smoky eye video, which shows you how to get that sexy, smoldering eye worn by supers of the past like Claudia Schiffer. It only requires a few minutes and a few products and gives you almost instant, smoldering impact.

Thank goodness it’s the weekend because we’ve got a few new makeup techniques to try ASAP!
